My work moves between painting, installation and graphics, exploring the relationship between space, surface and perception. At its centre is the grid, which for me is both a tool and an independent pictorial object. Due to the ubiquitous presence of the grid in our everyday lives – be it in appointment planners, architecture or route maps of a transport network – it becomes almost invisible on the one hand. On the other hand, it is so deeply embedded in our environment that it allows us intuitive and direct access to this element.
The grid enables me to visualise and question processes of perception and spatial relationships. As a universal element, it functions like a language or notation that makes the image readable and establishes connections. The works are created by combining structures that I develop from my constantly growing archive of grids and forms. I use recurring fragments that I reassemble over and over again. Through interventions such as changes in colour, structure, materiality or composition, I place these forms in different contexts, whereby their perception is renegotiated each time. An essential aspect of my practice is also exploring how the grids behave and change in different media and materials, while the system remains the same. Each transformation opens up new perspectives and expands the meaning of the grid in perception
